Julie Hudik has been Principal Oboe of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra since 2011. She has also served on the faculties of Jackson State University, Mississippi College, and the University of Southern Mississippi. In addition to the MSO, Julie has held the second oboe position with the Waco Symphony Orchestra, the principal oboe/English horn position with the Stow Symphony Orchestra, and performed as a substitute musician with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, St. Joseph Symphony, and Mansfield (OH) Symphony Orchestra.
She received her undergraduate and master’s degrees in oboe performance from Kent State University, and Baylor University, respectively. She also earned an artist’s certificate in oboe performance from the Conservatory of Music and Dance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Julie’s principal teachers are Barbara Bishop, Doris DeLoach, Renee Illa, Jeffrey Rathbun, and Danna Sundet.
Originally from Northeastern Ohio, Julie now lives in Hattiesburg with her husband, Rob Detjen, and their two children.
