Celebrate the capital city’s deep well of creativity, as Jackson soprano DeAnna Tisdale Johnson lends her stunning voice to Margaret Walker’s best-loved poems in three song-settings by Crafton Beck. Honor the Mississippi premiere of Carlos Simon’s powerful 2023 Grammy-nominated, multi-genre Requiem for the Enslaved – an original composition infused with African American spirituals and Catholic liturgical melodies – then stay for conversation and learn more.

Lyric Soprano DeAnna Tisdale Johnson captivates audiences with her versatile artistry. A native of Mississippi, she has performed in opera, concert, and recital settings across the US and abroad. Tisdale holds a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Boston Conservatory, an MA of Music from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a BA in Vocal Performance from Tougaloo College, where she graduated magna cum laude. She continues to explore the evolution of African American music, blending scholarship with performance.
