Jon Wenberg has served as the Mississippi Symphony’s Principal Bassoonist since 1993. He is also a member of the Mississippi Symphony Woodwind Quintet, the Meridian Symphony, the Magnolia Bassoon Quartet, and several other ensembles around the state. Jon is originally from Wisconsin. He studied at Northwestern University where he earned both Bachelor and Master degrees in Bassoon Performance. Jon also spent one year at the Cincinnati University College-Conservatory of Music as an Artist Diploma student, and spent five summers participating with the Aspen Music Festival.
Jon is currently the bassoon instructor at Jackson State University. He has also taught at Mississippi College, Millsaps College, and teaches private lessons to students from all around the Jackson metro area.
In his spare time Jon enjoys leather working, wood carving, and any craft project that will destroy at least one room of his house.
