I began playing violin in the fourth grade in the Amarillo, Texas, public schools. I’m all for strings in the schools! In the eighth grade, I volunteered to play viola in a quartet for a contest, and while I loved playing violin (and tolerated piano), I discovered the instrument I loved more than any other at that time!
I’ve been playing in the orchestra here since January, 1974, first the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, and later, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. My husband of 53 years, Norman, came here the previous November to teach in the string program and play cello in the symphony, but they seemed pleased to get a violist as a bonus. At various times over the years, I have also taught in the string program, and currently team-teach a class at Clinton Junior High School.
Besides having a long-term marriage, I have six children and fifteen grandchildren, and teach home-school Latin classes.
