
Two international sensations of the contemporary music scene explore the frontiers of classical music to deliver heart-achingly beautiful and immersive scores for film, television and stage. Revel in the works of Max Richter and Alexis Ffrench, as well as other contemporary greats, at this easy-listening concert featuring a lovely paring of MSO’s own keyboardist and violinist, Tyler and Shellie Kemp. Shellie Kemp, violinist
Jackson-born violinist Shellie Brown Kemp is a young artist recognized for her unique sound and emotive performances. Mrs. Kemp is a two-time winner of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, a finalist at the Couer d’Alene Symphony Concerto Competition, and finalist at MTNA Regional Competitions in Kentucky and Florida.
Shellie is the recipient of a National Trustee’s Fellowship, generous grants from the Performing Arts Consortium of Hilton Head, and Joel H. Cyprus Endowed Scholarship from the Shepherd School of Music. Passionate about infusing communities with music, she is a founding member of NEW JXN, a contemporary music ensemble dedicated to bringing new music and opportunities to the community.
Shellie received her Bachelor of Music degree from Belhaven University as a student of Song Xie, and her Master of Music degree from The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where she studied with Paul Kantor. Besides music, Shellie enjoys gardening, cats, and calligraphy. She resides in Jackson with her husband Tyler and daughter Zoey.

Tyler Kemp, pianist
An accomplished pianist and collaborator, Tyler Kemp’s exciting performances of classical, jazz, and pop music showcase his artistry in many styles of music. Tyler joined the faculty of Mississippi College in 2014, where he directs the Collaborative Piano area. He serves as music director at Bellwether Church and is a frequent performer with the Mississippi Opera. Tyler is a founding member of NEW JXN, a new-music ensemble based in Jackson.
Mr. Kemp received the Bachelor of Music degree and Master of Music degree from Mississippi College, where he studied with Dr. Angela Willoughby. He and his wife Shellie are proud parents of a daughter, Zoey.
